Dr. Zainab Toteh Osakwe is a tenured Associate Professor in the College of Nursing and Public Health at Adelphi University. Dr. Osakwe has a PhD from Columbia University, a Master of Science in Nursing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from Rutgers University, formerly University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey (UMDNJ), and a BS with a major in Nursing degree Adelphi University.
Dr. Osakwe is a community-engaged nurse scientist, with research focused on examining the role of nursing workforce to improve the outcomes for older adults and their family caregivers in home healthcare. She has served in varied nurse leadership role in the health care system; from a director of home health care to a nurse administrator in in -patient (hospital) settings. She was a Healthcare System Scholar (2022) funded by the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory which is focused on conducting pragmatic trials for persons living with dementia. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Aging (NIA); she recently completed a NIA funded project as the co-Principal Investigator focused on describing nurse practitioner teams in the delivery of home-based primary care to persons living with dementia. Her research has also focused on academic-clinical collaborations to build undergraduate nursing education post COVID-19 pandemic, and nurse faculty mentorship. Dr. Osakwe also serves on the education committee of the Nigerian Nurse Practitioner Association in NY. She is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Osakwe serves as an auxiliary Board member on the New York State Board of Nursing.
