On August 14, 2015, CGFNS International, Inc. (CGFNS) was notified that it has been approved by the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with consultative status to the United Nations. This status provides CGFNS with access to many high level meetings of the UN and a number of other important events that are by invitations only.
ECOSOC is the principal organ that coordinates the economic, social and related work of the 14 United Nations specialized agencies, functional commissions and five regional commissions. It serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to member States and the United Nations system. ECOSOC consists of 54 Member States with representation allotted to Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe and others.
“I am very pleased with this approval as a NGO with consultative status to the United Nations,” remarked Franklin Shaffer, EdD, RN, FAAN, FFNMRCSI Chief Executive Officer of CGFNS International, Inc. “This status will enable CGFNS to contribute its expertise to matters germane to human resources for health on a global scale while at the same time, taking on an advocacy role for the continuous improvement of health services across a broad continuum of care.”
The work of ECOSOC is conducted through meetings and discussion sessions throughout the year. Its main meeting in July alternates between New York and Geneva.
